THE ORIGIN

THE ORIGIN

“My wish is that the people who have contributed with me to developing innovative products should have at their disposal physical space and resources so that they can continue to learn new things, and that the fruit of their learning will, in its turn, benefit others.”

“It is profoundly mistaken to think of seniority and retirement as a frontier that marks the end of an active life.
Perhaps the attitudes of today's society towards senior citizens have their roots in a mentality based on materialism and productive capacity, which disregards the spiritual values and the heritage of experience, wisdom and humanity that the older person has accumulated over the years and can pass on to the young...”

“It is these fundamental considerations that have fuelled my own and my family's determination to deal with these attitudes within the Ferrero Group; this resolve has led us to create a Foundation that will honour the work, the spirit of self-denial, the sense of responsability and the precious loyalty of so many colleagues."

Michele Ferrero, Alba 28 Oct 1983

FOUNDATION

FOUNDATION

“Work, create and give”

These are the guiding principles of the Piera, Pietro and Giovanni Ferrero Foundation, established in Alba in 1983 at the wish of Michele Ferrero.

The Foundation works with tireless enthusiasm and commitment. Its work embraces social solidarity and culture, and emphasises the finest aspects of the human condition.

In the sphere of social support, the Ferrero Foundation offers health and social assistance to ex-employees who have worked continously for the Group for at least 25 years. The Foundation furthers educational, creative and recreational initiatives fot its ex-employees.

The cultural sector, on the other hand, promotes activities in the areas of art, science, history, and literature, through the organisation of conventions, conferences, seminars and exhibitions. A particular objective is to highlight the personalities and the work of people with connections to the Alba area or Piedmont, like Macrino d'Alba, Elvio Pertinace, Beppe Fenoglio, Pinot Gallizio, Pietrino Belli, Roberto Longhi and Giuseppe Vernazza. Each of these has been the subject of an exhibition, a convention or a publication.

FOR THE EMPLOYEES

FOR THE EMPLOYEES

From the very beginning, Ferrero's corporate spirit has been built on strong values, reflecting the Company's origins and history. According to these values, man is naturally at the heart of the Company.

In this context, Ferrero pursues an ambitious social policy aimed at the well-being of its employees. Two key principles guide this process: the constant objective of company growth, and the desire to futher the development of its employees.

In recent years this social project has become effective in Ferrero France with the creation of a social organisation at the service of the employees, and with the opening of a company nursery and a mini club on the permises to help with child-care issues.
In Mexico, for example, Ferrero is setting up a college scholarship program, in Ecuador and in Argentina the employees are entitled to discounts in supermarkets, Ferrero Luxembourg has made five-a-side football and tennis courts available fot the sportier people!

And this list is just a small part of the initiatives undertaken in the Ferrero world!

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE INITIATIVES

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE INITIATIVES

Ferrero’s Social Enterprise Initiatives scheme is part of the Group’s ethical and social mission statement. This project aims to extend Ferrero’s commitment to improving quality of life and development in underprivileged areas in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

In short, in these areas, the endeavour involves:
a. creating new jobs with the aim of developing products that are better suited to the particular climatic conditions of these areas, to the nutritional needs of local people and to their lower purchasing power;
b. reinvesting a part of the resulting turnover in local social projects, mainly aimed at improving the health and education of the area’s children and young people.

The first Ferrero Social Enterprise Initiatives scheme was launched in Cameroon in June 2004.
Other schemes are being set up in parts of South Africa and India. The strong foundations of the Social Enterprise Initiatives have already been laid. The hope for these Social Enterprise Initiatives is that they may develop over time and have the widest possible expansion.
